Denver Haunted Houses | 2010 Haunted House Season
There is a lot of excitement centered around the upcoming 2010 Haunted House Season in Denver. Here at HauntedRatings.com we have been receiving several emails about new haunted houses that are planning to open up their doors this coming season. We have also gotten updates from several different Haunts that you enjoyed last year. The 13th Door Haunted House, Curse of Slaughterhouse Gulch, The Haunted Mansion, The 25th Hour Haunted House, The Butcher Haunted House and the City of the Dead Haunt are among the many that will be returning for 2010.
New this year to HauntedRatings.com we will be adding a new feature called HOME HAUNTS. A Home Haunt is one that is usually set up in a garage, back yard, driveway and in some cases, a Home Haunt can utilize the entire home. They can run for 1 or 2 days up to several weekends. There usually isn’t a charge to see them, but donations are appreciated. A person who runs a Home Haunt spends hours and hours putting it together and does it for several different reasons. Some do it for a specific charity while others do it for a neighborhood activity, but all of them do it because of their love for Halloween. Several of Denver’s Home Haunters have gone onto run some of the best Pro Haunts in Denver.
So, while the rest of the country is depressed, Haunters in Denver are feverishly building and painting walls, constructing props and figuring out the best way to scare anyone who is brave enough to enter their establishment.
We will begin updating listings for HauntedRatings.com in mid August. If you have a haunt that you would like to have listed, you can send me the information at hauntmaster@hauntedratings.com or call me at (720)261-0570. I will have a form online that you can fill out or you can just send me the information and I will take care of it for you. Remember the listings are FREE! Feel free to contact me with any questions. I just love to talk Halloween!!
Denver Haunted Houses l The Darkness Transworld Tour Update
Transworld’s 2010 Halloween and Haunted Attraction Tradeshow is coming back to St. Louis March 25-28, 2010 and during the show The Darkness haunted house will open again to the haunt industry on three different nights. The 2009 Darkness tour was a bigger success than we had ever anticipated. This year we have limited the amount of guests per night to ensure a better experience for those who attend. The Darkness is undergoing a massive overhaul at a cost in excess of $200,000.00 prior to the 2010 Transworld Haunt Show.
The Darkness is three attractions in one 30,000 square foot building, which includes The Darkness, Terror Visions in 3D and a Monster Museum. All three of our attractions have been improved, renovated and or totally overhauled for the tour during the Transworld Haunt Show. So what will you see this year that you didn’t see last year?
Over 80% of the entire second floor of The Darkness was removed and rebuilt from scratch. The Darkness will feature several major animated effects that will scare entire groups of guests at the same time including a falling barrel effect, a major water scare animation and a really cool dropping ceiling. The Darkness will also feature tens of thousands of dollars of never before seen props, animations, and sets that will leave haunt owners amazed.
Terror Visions will unveil an amazing array of 3D effects never before seen or attempted and the monster museum will include all new full sized monsters.
Three tours are being offered… the first on Thursday March 25, 2010 prepare to take a new Behind the Scenes tour which this year includes tours through our World Class Actors Room, Halloween Productions workshop, and all thru the all new Darkness. If you want to see The Darkness with actors this year we offer one tour Friday night and another on Saturday night from 7:30pm until 11:30pm.

Denver Haunted Houses l Good bye 2009 – Welcome 2010
As we prepare to say an official “Good Bye” to the year 2009, we begin to wonder what the year 2010 has in store for us Haunters.
There are several trade shows and conventions coming up that might tide us over until October. The first one being Transworlds National Halloween and Haunted Attractions Show in St Louis, Mo in March. This will be the second year in a row that this show has been in St Louis. This show used to be part of the the Halloween Costume show that is now held in Chicago. The dates for the HauntShow are March 25-28, 2010. What can you expect to see there? There are several Props, Animatronics, Games and Crowd Pleasers, Concession Supplies, Tickets and Crowd Control, Masks and Costumes, Lighting and Special Effects, Make-Up and Prosthetics, Fabric Paint and Décor, Gift and Novelty items, Haunted House Design and Installation, Sound/Visual Electronics and Effects, Mobile Haunted Houses, Educational and Instructional Videos, Spooky Music and SFX, Wristbands, Visitor Automated Tracking Systems, Haunt-Oriented Graphic and Web Design, and much more! Obviously, geared more towards those who run Haunted Houses rather than those who attend. If you have ever thought that putting together a Haunted Attraction than the National Halloween and Haunted Attractions show is something you should check out. http://www.hauntshow.com
If you are looking for a convention that caters to both the Haunted House owner and still offers some fun entertainment for Haunted House lovers than Midwest Haunters Convention in Columbus, OH might be just the ticket. MidWest Haunters Con will be held in June, 2010 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel. Here is what they offer those who attend. “The Midwest Haunters Convention is for Haunted Attraction Producers, Actors, Artists and Home Haunters. Our goal is to provide educational seminars and workshops with experienced presenters, a 75+ vendor tradeshow with the latest in haunt offerings, and a place to network with others in the industry during our unique social activities. We’ll offer 1st class haunted attraction bus tours, costume parties and contests (the Bloody Mary Monster Makeup Wars competition, Ms Midwest Scary Pageant & the IAHA Scariest Character Contest). “Haunters” are always welcome here!” http://midwesthauntersconvention.com
Probably one of the best Haunted House conventions to attend would be HauntCon, April 28-May03 this year in Orlando, Florida. This show is aimed at Haunters and Haunted House attendees as well. Featuring a Costume Contest, Seminars, Haunted Attraction bus tours, parties and more. This convention moves around the country each year giving everyone a chance to attend and be part of the action. There is a large vendors area and tons of great ideas and eye-candy for everyone. http://hauntcon.com
As you can see, 2010 is going to be a great year and we will be keeping you up-to-date on all the fun and scary events in your area. Happy Haunting!!
Denver Haunted Houses l Local Band ANIMUS to perform at 13th Door tonight
The 13th Door Haunted House will be hosting a live performance by local band ANIMUS tonight from 8pm to 11pm. ANIMUS which, according to the dictionary can mean ”often spiteful or malevolent ill will” gives you a clue as to the type of music this metal band likes to play. Edgy, original with a touch of evil thrown in for good measure.
Lead Guitarist, Tee Jay has been in the band since it’s beginnings. On his Myspace page it reads that he “…is waiting for the world to tremble and the waters to rise, as the elements reclaim what was taken. Destroying the festering parasite known as man.” A bit depressing, but once you get to know him you realize that he is very serious about his music and only wants to keep you guessing as to what will come next.
The band members include: Robbie – Vocals, TeeJay – Lead Guitar - Chuck – Guitar -Erich – Bass -Bryan – Drums and Fish. All members of the band strongly believe that their group offers something different to the audience. Join Animus on Facebook to see where they will be playing next.
The best thing to do is to check ANIMUS out for yourself tonight at the 13th Door Haunted House – I-225 and Parker Road – (720)261-0570. While you’re at it, this is your chance to be scared at the 13th Door Haunted House or its sister attraction – Curse of Slaughterhouse Gulch. Happy Haunting!
Haunted House Hauntrepreneur on CNN
Local Hauntrepreneur Interviewed For National Story
The big snow storm in Denver put a damper on many of the area’s haunted houses, but KathE Walker remains upbeat about the prospect for scares this weekend. KathE was interviewed about running haunted houses in Denver and had quite a few interesting comments about what it is like scaring people for a living.
The news story includes video and photos of many of the different characters that can be seen at the haunted houses that KathE’s family runs.
As a bit of an update to the story, The 13th Door and Curse of Slaughterhouse Gulch are now scheduled to be open for business (due to demand) through November 1st from 7pm-10pm. It’s kind of a scare-extension.

BATTLESTAR GALACTICA: THE PLAN

Win a DVD copy of BATTLESTAR GALACTICA: THE PLAN
Available today on DVD, Blu-Ray and digital download
So what does this have to do with haunted houses, you ask? Well the story is about modern science creating a race of killer robots that eventually destroy humanity in a multi-planet horror show. Or we could say that it taps the same pleasure center in your brain that a good zombie flick does. In any event, people (us) love a free movie – that’s reason enough.
Set just after the destruction of the Twelve Colonies, Battlestar Galactica: The Plan follows multiple versions of the Cylon models One and Six who have infiltrated the remaining humans, both on the planets, and those who have escaped into space. From there, the events of the series are shown from a Cylon perspective, and their underlying plan is revealed.
This highly-anticipated film was directed by Edward James Olmos and stars Olmos, Dean Stockwell, Michael Trucco, Grace Park, Michael Hogan, Aaron Douglas, Callum Keith Rennie, Kate Vernon, Rick Worthy, Lymari Nadal, Matthew Bennett, Rekha Sharma, Tricia Helfer, Alisen Down, and Tiffany Lyndall-Knight. It is available today on DVD, Blu-ray and digital download.

The Fourth Kind
Screening Tuesday, November 3rd @ 9pm
Denver CO – Pickup tickets tonight
In 1972, a scale of measurement was established for alien encounters. When a UFO is sighted, it is called an encounter of the first kind. When evidence is collected, it is known as an encounter of the second kind. When contact is made with extraterrestrials, it is the third kind. The next level, abduction, is the fourth kind. This encounter has been the most difficult to document…until now.
Structured unlike any film before it, The Fourth Kind is a provocative thriller set in modern-day Nome, Alaska, where—mysteriously since the 1960s—a disproportionate number of the population has been reported missing every year. Despite multiple FBI investigations of the region, the truth has never been discovered.
Here in this remote region, psychologist Dr. Abigail Tyler (Milla Jovovich) began videotaping sessions with traumatized patients and unwittingly discovered some of the most disturbing evidence of alien abduction ever documented.
Using never-before-seen archival footage that is integrated into the film, The Fourth Kind exposes the terrified revelations of multiple witnesses. Their accounts of being visited by alien figures all share disturbingly identical details, the validity of which is investigated throughout the film.
This film is rated PG-13.
You can pickup tickets at two of our haunted houses tonight. Visit The 13th Door (I-225 & Parker Rd.) or The 25th Hour (C-470 & University Blvd.) Tickets will be available, while supplies last. Both haunted houses open from 7pm – 10pm tonight.

Denver Haunted Houses l Haunted Attraction Magazine Grand Tour
This Halloween season, Haunted Attraction Magazine will be sponsoring a Grand Tour of Haunted Houses throughout the country. It will be like their version of the CBS’s popular reality show – The Amazing Race. Twenty four different states and over 70 Haunted Houses, Hayrides and Haunted Trails across the country are on the schedule. Reviewer and intrepid traveler, John Kennedy, will be flying/driving to haunted houses all across the country to bring you pictures and reviews of some of the countries best and most interesting Haunted Houses. The tour began in late September and will continue until the 2009 Halloween season is over.
On October 12, the Grand Tour stopped to visit a few of the Denver Haunted Houses. John was able to get to four different haunted attractions. He stopped first at Primitive Fear and 13th Street Manor in Commerce City and finished the night up at the Legendary 13th Door Haunted House and Curse of Slaughterhouse Gulch in South Denver. Here is a sample of what John wrote in his blog after seeing the 13th Door and Slaughterhouse Gulch.
“My second stop of the night took me to visit The 13th Door and Curse of Slaughterhouse Gulch Haunted Houses. These two haunts are located in a former shopping center in Denver but are very different haunts. I visited 13th Door Haunted House first. The haunt is themed as a hotel with a good story behind the haunt. The Barrington Hotel was owned by wealthy Denver Millionaire, John Barrington. On a cold October night in 1912, John Barrington, was throwing his annual All Hallows Eve party in the Hotel’s Penthouse suite. Unfortunately, a disgruntled nephew with a gambling problem starts a fire killing everyone inside, except for one person who found the 13th door.
Unfortunately, I got there later in the evening and had to go through by myself, but I still enjoyed the haunt. The haunt has good scenes and energetic actors who were doing their best to scare. There is a good variety of scenes and has plenty of dark spaces.
The second haunt I visited was Curse of Slaughterhouse Gulch which is similar to 13th Door but edgier and more intense. As you can guess by the name, it is a slaughterhouse themed haunt. This attraction featured solid scenes and enthusiastic actors just like 13th Door.”
When all is said and done, John will have traveled over 15,000 miles! Most of the tour will traveled via the trusty Haunted Attraction Hybrid with a couple airplane trips to get out west.
You can follow Johns adventures as he travels across the country via his Blog at http://www.hauntedattraction.com or you can follow him on Twitter @hauntmagazine. Happy Haunting, John!
